Cambridge International Guitar Orchestra Weekend
20-21 April 2013
(Not to be confused with the annual Cambridge Guitar
Weekend in October ...)
After our visits to Guitar'Essonne
in France (2010) and to Alegria in Belgium (2012), we are delighted
to arrange a return visit to
repay their hospitality. The picture above shows all three
orchestras at the Ghent concert venue.
Events will include joint workshops and a performance of
'Summa' by Arvo Pärt, a lecture/demonstration by guitar maker, David
Merrin, on guitar construction and the playing of some antique guitars.
There will be individual orchestra performances on both days at 2
different churches in Cambridge including one at one of the oldest
churches in Cambridge, and an evening meal at an unusual local
restaurant with a short performance by the classical guitarist, Gerard
Cousins. The event will end with a guided walk around some of the great
cultural landmarks in Cambridge.
The weekend includes two public concerts by the
participating orchestras, with Duo
Flāmas and Gerard
Cousins as soloists. The
public concerts
