CGO Update – Important News

Dear CGO Members and CGO Friends,
Since I last wrote in March there have been a few developments.
Valerie’s husband Robert has been appointed to a new teaching position. However it is in Dorset which means they will be moving. This is expected to happen in August. The committee got together via Zoom to discuss the resulting need for a new Musical Director. We made some enquiries to see who might be interested and I can now tell you that the committee are unanimous in proposing that Mathew James take over as MD when Valerie leaves. Of course the appointment of an MD has to be voted on by all the CGO members and we will be holding an Extraordinary General Meeting in July at which time you will be able to vote on the committee’s proposal.
Furthermore with the freeing up of Covid restrictions we shall shortly be able to restart CGO rehearsals at Foxton Village Hall. Colin our treasurer who took over after the passing of Hans last year has booked the Foxton Pavilion for June 27th, July 11th & July 25th 2021. He has been tracking the various measures that need to be in place to keep us Covid safe. Valerie and Mat are going to arrange between themselves how best to carry out the handover process over these next three meetings. The EGM is pencilled in for the 11th July. We will also need to confirm the dates for the Autumn term. Colin has proposed:
    12th Sep; 26th Sep; 10th Oct; 24th Oct; 7th Nov; 21st Nov; 5th Dec
For these rehearsals we expect to be in the capable hands of Mat. Valerie gave a glowing recommendation for Mat as MD and hopes to retain close links with CGO following her move and will still be available for on-line private lessons.
If you have guitar playing friends who you think might like to join CGO now would be a great time to try to entice them to start as we will all be coming back to ensemble playing afresh after the long Covid break.
