Dear Cambridge Guitar Orchestra,
I am writing to ask whether it would be possible for you to promote to your members at the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra this fundraiser guitar and qanun concert on 27 June for our charity Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees ?
For the last two years we have produced a guitar concert as part of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival. Due to the COVID-19 crisis we are doing this year’s concert online, using YouTube.
We have a double bill featuring the sublime and moving music of Ayman Jarjour  (guitar) and Maya Youssef  (qanun), two world-class artists both originally from Damascus.
Below is the media release we are distributing. It has all the info about the two artists, our charity, how to buy tickets, what the money will be used for, and quotes from some of the Syrian refugees now living in our area. I also attach some photographs of the artists, and our social media ads for facebook/Twitter.
We’d be really grateful for any promotional support you can give us, to help get the word out.
Tickets for the YouTube fundraiser concert sold via Eventbrite are here <www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fundraiser-concert-for-sevenoaks-welcomes-refugees-tickets-106240494178>.
Many thanks indeed.
Best wishes

*Media release:*
*Syrian strings online for refugees in Sevenoaks*
*Two world-class musicians originally from Damascus are helping Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees to raise funds for Syrian refugees resettling in the Sevenoaks area in Kent.*
The online YouTube fundraiser concert for Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is on Saturday 27 June at 7:00 pm, featuring the sublime, exquisite and moving music of Ayman Jarjour  (guitar) and Maya Youssef  (qanun). The money raised will help support vulnerable Syrian refugees rebuilding their lives in the Sevenoaks area, as part of the UK Government’s Resettlement Scheme.
Internationally renowned Syrian classical guitarist Ayman Jarjour has performed worldwide, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, and studied in Madrid and Juilliard. Now living in Scotland he is the 2020 Arts and Culture Ambassador for the Scottish Refugee Council <www.scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk/our-new-ambassador-at-celtic-connections/?fbclid=IwAR1h7XJP5ZtbhhcHApshpV4xKYECcBz6qQCCpGe96K6z3NSOcUCoeFiHQRE>.
Ayman returns to help Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees with a varied programme including Classical, Spanish, Latin, Modern and Syrian music, to support Syrian refugees resettling in the Sevenoaks area. Here’s a clip  of Ayman in performance, and his website <aymanjarjour.com/>_._
Maya Youssef <mayayoussef.com/> is hailed as ‘queen of the qanun,’ (BBC) the 78-stringed Middle Eastern plucked zither. For her, the act of playing music is the opposite of death and destruction; it is a life- and hope-affirming act and an antidote to what is happening, not only in Syria, but in the whole world.
Maya’s debut album Syrian Dreams, produced by the legendary Joe Boyd, was highly-acclaimed in music press around the world (including this review in the Guardian <www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/16/maya-youssef-syrian-dreams-review-powerful-homage-twists-arabic-music-cliches>) and has led to her performing on prestigious stages such as the BBC Proms and receive prestigious awards such as the Arts Council of England Exceptional Talent Award, Songlines Music Award and The German Critics’ Record Award. In perhaps her highest honour, the Year 6 class of Dalmain Primary School in London is named ‘Youssef’ in recognition of her inspirational work. Currently, Maya is writing and recording her second album with support from the PRS Women Make Music. She appears regularly in the media, including these recent appearances on BBC Radio 3 <www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08chdkh> and BBC Radio 4 <www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b090293d>.
Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees <www.sevenoakswelcomesrefugees.org/> (SWR) will use the money raised to help support the resettlement of vulnerable refugees in the Sevenoaks area. Previous grants have included living costs incurred whilst in hospital, Eid and Christmas gifts, clothing, necessary equipment for the houses, bikes, books and travel for English lessons, laptops, professional tutoring, professional qualification exam fees, swimming and football courses and social outings. In addition, the charity has used its funds to help to secure two additional rental properties by supporting the landlords to carry out improvements to the properties.
The charity works in close partnership with Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council and the support agency Clarion Housing Association, who are commissioned by KCC. SWR provides local practical support to refugee families in their area and finds private landlords willing to take part in the government-funded rent payment scheme.
The refugees are making good progress with the hard work of resettlement, with English lessons continuing remotely during the COVID-19 lock down. Ahmad said “The life in Sevenoaks is good. It is a beautiful town. People are friendly and it is very safe for me and my family. My children can get a good education here.” Zaynab agrees and said “Now I just want to move forward and not look back.”

Stay Home – Let’s stay connected

Another FYI item that arrived at the weekend…

Stay Home – Let’s stay connected Every day a concert for 30 minute until the quarantine is over.
Stay Home – Let’s stay connected
Dear Friends, Hello from Buenos Aires (Argentina), where we’re in lock down as probably many of you!
This is an extraordinary time with so many of us isolated at home and waiting. We are spending so much energy being prepared, being careful, keeping distance…of course, it’s our responsibility. At the same time, _we need to connect_, to keep moving forward, to do things for each other and to encourage each other.
We musicians are used to connecting with people face to face every week: at concerts, in rehearsals, in lessons. We’ve had to think quickly and reinvent those connections so we can keep our own momentum going, *and hopefully give our fans a dose of energy and perhaps a moment to relax, dream, heal, learn, or laugh. *
So here are the ways I’m going to be reaching out to you starting now:
DAILY LIVE SESSIONSuntil quarantine is over. ** 4pm Eastern US 5pm Argentina 9pm Western Europe
Every day I’ll be doing a live session from a different social media platform (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).  I’ll be playing some of my new solo guitar repertoire, playing video duets with fellow musicians (for real!), answering your questions and taking requests of tangos that you can sing at home.
*See you today at 4pm Eastern!*
_Virtual Tip Jar:_ tip jar…if you’d like to support the live sessions you can send at tip via Paypal: adam@adamtully.com <mailto:adam@adamtully.com>
*Online Lessons:*
I’ve been teaching online for years and I’ve developed a method that works really well. If you’re a guitarist curious about tango, or interested in improving your performances of Astor Piazzolla’s music, send me a message for details.
*Group initiatives: *
I’m not the only one who’s coming up with ways to keep the music going. My friend Luís Caruana, a bandoneonist and composer, created #lamelodiainfinita: he proposed six notes which musicians are using to create new music, which will ultimately be combined into a video to spread positive energy.  My friend Sebastián Henríquez, a guitarist and tech whiz, found a way that musicians can have long-distance jam sessions with virtually no latency (meaning for the first time you can actually play simultaneously with someone over the internet).  If you have an idea for a group initiative let me know!
I’m looking forward to hearing from you, and seeing you in a few hours.*Let’s keep the music going!* Adam
